Stuff and Nonsense

  • OMG. Smarties are going to be changing to hexagonal tubes and losing the top with the letter on. Woe!

  • ETA: The comments on that article are great. "Why?! Why?! Why have they done this? Only Smarties have the answer!" says Alex Moon of Reading UK and Richard, UK says "This is a disgrace! I suggest we organise an immediate boycott of all Nestle products." Heh. Indeed.

  • I discovered that Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau and Morena Baccarin are apprentice Jedi Chefs. Classic.

  • I've just watched this weeks Lost and it had Robert Patrick in it! Very random. It continues to be fabulous.

  • The Shakespearean Insulter. Linked to by [livejournal.com profile] niannah, that puking onion-eyed harpy. Endless hours of fun.

I love the Jedi Chefs. [livejournal.com profile] rivier and I sat next to two of them at a convention last year, and spent the whole evening laughing like drains.

The story about Smarties? Gives me great woe. I am very lame, but I am deeply upset about the letter being gone. That's just wrong.

[identity profile] packmentality.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha. My first thought at that first link was that Smarties have always come wrapped in plastic. Then I clicked the link and realized that Smarties in Europe are something completely different from Smarties in America. Weirdos.

Now I have a craving for a candy I can't even get in my country. Thanks for that. :-P

It's never too late to join the Nestle boycott. :D

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I do try, but I can't resist Smarties or Yorkies! Bastard company buying all the nice chocolate brands! The university I went to didn't sell Nestle anywhere which was good because it didn't tempt me. Strangely enough I was having this conversation with my mum last night.

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
What are Smarties in the US then? And I think you'll find that you're the weirdos!

And no problem!

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, so very distressing. I read it at work and everyone was most disgruntled. As Bob Ross says in the comments to that article: It is the darkest moment in our nation's history. The comments on that article are hilarious actually!

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I just remember them duelling at Fusion and breaking their light-sabers!

[identity profile] packmentality.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yes, we are quite weird. But that's beside the point. :-P Smarties are basically colored sugar tablets and each color is a different flavor. They've been my favorite candy since I was a kid, despite being made almost entirely of dextrose.

[identity profile] elspethsheir.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The Shakespearean Insulter

I am never going to leave this site. It is just too enjoyable and witty. ("Would thou wert clean enough to spit upon!"). Hee!

[identity profile] fourleftxaviers.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it would help if they didn't make tasty things. We have like three industrial-sized cannisters of Quik powder in the pantry.

[identity profile] lykaios.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
NOT SMARTIES NOOOOO!

[identity profile] niennah.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sense sure you have, else could you not have motion; but sure that sense is apoplex'd. I am no puking onion-eyed harpy!

I am very enlightened now, though, as to where that picture of Adam Busch with the chef hat came from. Thank you! Also, the picture of NF is so great. And Morena looks too cute!

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thou artless plume-plucked joithead, thou wouldst eat thy dead vomit up,
and howl'st to find it.

Ahaha! How did I miss those Adam and Danny pictures! I think I just clicked on random pictures and accidentally found the Firefly ones - I think I spotted J August Richards somewhere too.

[identity profile] niennah.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
What, you egg! Young fry of treachery! There's an Eric in there too, but he's too cool to wear the hat, lol.

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Strange! Smarties without chocolate. What will you think of next?

They've been my favorite candy since I was a kid, despite being made almost entirely of dextrose.

Surely being made entirely of dextrose is a prerequisite to being the favourite sweet of a child...

[identity profile] niennah.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, Robert Patrick in Lost??? I really must watch this show when it comes on telly here. *g*

Dude, I really should read all the bullet points, not just the ones with links in them. *shakes head*

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup! Only briefly, but I thought of you! You should definitely watch it when it's on over here. I <3 it.

I can't believe that you skimmed one of my bullet points. Each contained a nugget of information that was worth both reading and digesting.

[identity profile] niennah.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone thinks of me when they see Robert Patrick. Hell, even Robert Patrick thinks of me when he looks in the mirror or passes a shop with a shiny window. Or looks in a puddle. Or fixes his hair looking at a shiny chrome toaster. That kind of thing.

I know, I know. I'm like an incorrigible student who simply won't read the notes properly. I'll change, I promise.

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Thou poisonous bunch-back'd toad! Thou fusty toad-spotted varlot!

Hours and hours of fun.

I think "Thou art a fusty nut with no kernel!" has to be my phrase of the week next week.

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Indeed.

Although today I have learnt that you don't even have proper Smarties in the US. I'm sorry to say that these are not Smarties.

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I can just see him caught in thrall by his reflection in the toaster and thoughts of you. It's beautiful when you think about it.

Ha! That's what you always say.

[identity profile] lykaios.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah but I am FAMILIAR and I just don't think things ought to CHANGE like that.

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-18 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
But on the bright side, if they do change, the collection of Smartie tops under my bed will be worth millions!

[identity profile] elvinborn.livejournal.com 2005-02-19 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so confused about the Smarties thing. And then I read in comments that your definition of Smarties contain chocolate? Does not compute.

Woot! for random Robert Patrick sightings!! Sadly, it was a Very short sighting

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2005-02-20 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Everywhere in the world apart from the US, Smarties are a bit like M&Ms but with nicer chocolate. They come in a cylindical cardboard tube with a plastic top. In the US, a company bought the rights to the name Smarties from the owner (Nestle or Rowntrees - whoever it was at the time) and so you have the sugar tablet type sweets instead of the chocolate ones. Or so I'm told!

Sadly it was a short sighting. I was expecting more of him. :(
