Stuff what annoys me. And a good book.

I've been very un-updatey this weekend haven't I. Probably because I've got nothing exciting to say!

I finished reading At Swim, Two Boys on Sunday. Loved it. What a fabulous book. It took me two days to get round to reading the last fifty pages because I knew it couldn't end well and couldn't stand to read it. And I was right. Gah. But it couldn't have ended any other way really.

I am pissed off with NTL yet again. The channels have been disappearing one by one and what we do have is freezing. An engineer was meant to come out this evening and surprise, surprise, they couldn't come. And so I couldn't watch Smallville because E4 disappeared today and so has Sky One. Fuckers. I think Sky may be getting a new customer.

And now Semagic won't post this. Bugger it.

*kicks the things wot annoy you*

Also, At Swim, Two Boys was fantastic. It doesn't end well, no (I mean, that happy ending thing, and all, and how it doesn't have one), but the book is just... well... good. I should read it again.

Yay for kicking annoying stuff. *joins in the kicking*

I knew there wasn't going to be a happy ending and I don't think the book would have the impact it did if it had have had one - it would have been false. The saddest thing is what Jim became, even though he hated it and knew Doyler would have done too. But you can't blame him. It also made me realise that I really ought to know more about the recent history of Ireland than I do.

I loved that book. And yes, you knew how it was going to end but all the way through you were hoping and hoping that it would end differently. But you're right - fitting ending. The sign of a great book :)

My NTL is rubbish as well. If it weren't for the broadband and the phone deal, I'd never consider having cable again after our contract is up. But maybe I'm too broke to consider something else - i.e. sky and a broadband deal. *sigh*

It took me a couple of goes to get past the prologue and the first chapter (I think the language usage put me off) but after that I just sped through it. The characters grew on me so much. Plus, the story of the first potato molecule in chapter 8 is bloody fabulous. ;)

You're right, I was hoping that it would end differently. But you knew it couldn't.

We've got NTL broadband and the phone too so I don't know if we really will switch but we've had so many problems with the cable over the last six months and it's just getting ridiculous. The only thing we've never had problems with is the phone. Yet.
