fun in the rain and doctor who

Remind me never to travel for work again! On Monday I was supposed to be at a meeting in Hull. Yes, Hull that was under water. I got as far as north Doncaster and had to go through flood water up past the bottom of my car - vans driving past me in the opposite direction were making my car rock with the waves! I stopped in a completely flooded Tesco car park and decided that even though I was now closer to Hull than Nottingham, I'd better turn back because I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get home again. Turns out that it was the right choice as the meeting never went ahead because the basement of the offices in Hull flooded and they had to evacuate the building! Luckily, the predicted rain for this weekend hasn't really shown its face. My aunt in Sheffield had four feet of water in her back garden but luckily it didn't get into the house.

I enjoyed the episode. I've seen lots of posts on my flist from people who hated it. Yes, I thought that the whole glowy Doctor being turned back into himself from Gollum (WTF?!) by the power of thought thing was pretty naff and cheesy, but this is Doctor Who! It's not Battlestar Galactica! On the whole I thought it was great. Martha was awesome as usual and I loved that her family remembers everything that happened.

The Face of Boe is probably Jack! WTF!?! Maybe when humans get that old they become huge and when Time Lords get that old they turn into Dobby the house elf. Who knows! Very bizarre and quite cool, although poor Jack.

So is Martha back next year? I've heard some rumblings that she's going to be in Torchwood as well? To be honest, if she's not going to be back properly I'll be pretty sad as I really like her.

The Master - I was cross when I thought he'd been killed off but I'm pretty sure he's not now. I think Lucy killed him on purpose so that she can bring him back to life (and hopefully as John Simm!). I absolutely loved the end when the Doctor was holding him as he was dying and begging him to regenerate. Poor, lonely Doctor. He must have really loved the Master at some point in his life.

Talking of regeneration though - can Time Lords just refuse to regenerate? If you knock one unconscious and then kill them, do they not automatically regenerate? I never thought there was a choice about it, but I'm not an old-skool Who expert so I'm probably missing something.
