Dogs - spawn of the devil?

Mum got bitten by a dog yesterday at work - some kind of horrible Staffordshire bull terrier cross. She went to tell an old couple to put their dog on a lead as they were near a childrens play area. Some kids nearby kicked a football. It was heading towards one of the dog's owners so my mum lifted her arm to stop it hitting him and the dog jumped up, bit her under her arm and didn't let go until it had pulled her over. The dog was on a lead at this point! It hurt her a lot (obviously!). She went to the doctors and had it dressed and she's got to go back today to have it changed. She can't drive and she's got her arm in a sling.

She's reported the owners to the police but I don't know what they'll do about it. That dog shouldn't be allowed out without a muzzle on especially if it's round childrens play areas. The thing that pisses me off most is that the owners of the dog weren't particularly bothered about what had happened and were still sitting in the same place when the police man was patrolling the park.

I think there's a possibility that I may be able to get a permanent position where I'm working at the moment. I said I'd be available for at least a year. It will be nice to have a job where I know that they can't turn round and say - sorry we don't need you anymore after today.

[livejournal.com profile] niannah - hope your first day in the new job's going okay!

Edited: because toady does not mean the same thing as today...
