Can you Adam and Eve it?

How belief in Adam and Eve is making a revival in the UK I wish it was an April Fool's joke...

A teachers' union has said it is alarmed by an increase in lessons which teach that Adam and Eve was the literal truth, rather the fable which science believes it to be. The rise in creationism is not just an American phenomenon.

"Evolution is not compatible with Christianity," he [Dr Monty White] insists.

I'm sorry to say Dr White, but I think you'll find more than a few Christians who are willing to contradict you.
There is a creationist museum in Portsmouth called Genesis Expo, run by the Creation Science Movement (CSM). Children can play with Boris the dinosaur and learn why evolution is scientifically impossible.

Stuff like this makes me come out in a cold sweat. I'd like someone to come and explain to me why evolution is scientifically impossible.

I'm going to have my lunch before this makes me more mad.

You should go!

how it was impossible for us to have evolved from monkeys because we don't look anything like monkeys

*screams* What always amuses me (because I'm such a pedant) when people say that is that we aren't even descended from monkeys. NOT MONKEYS.

People have some strange views sometimes. That church also taught its children that angels and devils were literal beings, and if you looked hard enough you could really see them flying around. Seriously.

0_o Obviously we're just not looking hard enough.

I was taught creationism/Adam and Eve as literal truth. And promptly got thrown out of my RE class when I got a bit passionate as to how fucking moronic it all was.

The teacher claiming there was no evidence that atoms exist *killed* me. I still get furious thinking about that class, though I think they had to drop it after, um, the scene I made.

I think I'd have been thrown out too.

OMG what? Electricity? The atomic bomb...fission of...erm, fairies?

I don't understand people who willingly choose to be closed-minded. It is interesting to note that scientists do not claim that evolution precludes the possibility of the existence of God. It's the Christian fundamentalists who do that. 'Mentalists' being the operative part of the word.

Me neither, which I guess is why stuff like this frustrates me so much. I'm an atheist but I don't feel the need to go around proving that god doesn't exist.

Hee! That's great!
