From BBC News about the panic-buying of fuel that's going on at the moment:

Merseyside Police have asked people not to ring 999 to ask where to buy fuel after phone lines became strained.

There are no words. 0_o

Also - we won the Ashes! I was predicting doom - nice to see it didn't come about.

Mwah! The Hitchhiker's Guide really is useful!

They're supposed to be the ashes of the bails (the bit on the top of the wicket that you have to knock off to get someone out) from the first time that Australia beat England at cricket on English soil at the end of the 1800's. So every couple of years or so we play Australia for the summer and the winner at the end of the five matches gets the ashes. Or something. Whatever they are, we haven't won them for 18 years and everyone is very surprised.
