With Michelle Bachelet in Chile, and Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in Liberia being elected as heads of state, the BBC News website asks the public if they think that these women will make better leaders than the men who have come before them. Here's a gem of a reply from one Ray Mistry, Manchester, NH, USA.

NO, they cannot. Women cannot handle a far demanding and stressful situation wisely and logically. There are a lot of variables involved in women and not in men.

Well, he certainly got his point across wisely and logically, didn't he?

I now see the error of my ways. Forgive me.

I can only aspire to such wisdom and logic. Sadly these pesky variables are holding me back :(

I know! Bloody variables. I never even knew I had them until now. :'(

I'm smiling right now because we're in the news and we're never in the news!! :D

Personally, I don't think Bachelet is going to be a better leader than Lagos, but that's because Lagos kicked ass. If reelection were allowed in Chile, people would've forced him to run and he would've won, which is better. But she IS a good leader and she has plenty of experience leading with men (she was Minister for Health and then for Defense) so I think she's going to be a good leader. At least we all hope so. :)

I must say, I thought of you straight away when I saw the story!

A lot of those idiots leaving comments where I found that one don't know the merits of either Bachelet or Lagos and were commenting based purely on the fact that she's a woman. Which I think is idiotic!

Guh. There's way too much ambivalent sexism in the world. This guy should be beaten over the head with a stick. I'll volunteer.

I'll volunteer to join you with the beating over the head with a stick. Unless our variables get in the way of the beating. Apparently they get in the way of leadership so they might get in the way of beating too. 0_o

That's okay. If our variables get in the way of the beating, we can always control men through seduction and equal rights movements, then convince one of them to hit this guy over the head.

I like your evil ways of thinking. It's a plan.

Boggles. Who is that fellow? I hope his wife kicks his ass with her variables.

Some random nutter who left a comment on the BBC message board. I hope he doesn't have a wife...

Leon! I love that film.
