crisis!

Currently at work, I have two computers on my desk (ridiculous I know). The old IBM equipment from the old company, and a brand new set from the new company. I'm not using the new one yet because all the programs I need are on the old machine, but I did use the new one yesterday to test out the new company's internet connection. GMAIL IS BLOCKED AND SO IS LIVEJOURNAL. OH MY GOD. They're going to have to prise my old machine out of my cold dead hands. I don't really like to check LJ much at work, but I do skim my f-list when I get into work and sometimes at lunch. But my gmail? That sucks. I'll just have to abuse my work email account. Hah. I don't know how long it will be before they take my old one away. :(

Bastards.

That is just not on. I hate the way large companies think they have to be Nazis about the internet. Keep the new computer as long as you can!

Blocking gmail makes no sense at all. Are other mail site blocked? Is it just a gmail thing?

I know. My old company is a pretty big company but they don't feel the need to babysit us like this. I actually got an email last week containing the guidelines about what you should write in your email out of office message. WTF? I also noted that they've got a blogging policy now. They're seriously paranoid.

I reckon it'll be all the popular internet email sites, which totally sucks. I can't survive without my gmail! :(

When I said 'keep the new computer', I obviously meant 'keep the old computer'. Else my outrage would make no sense.

A blogging policy? And guidelines for your out of office email? Wow. Someone's got control issues.

What if I have something really important to tell you during the day and now I can't? It's not fair.

I never even noticed that! I understood the sentiment. The whole company has control issues. We're all moving desks yet again over the weekend so I've got to pack up my stuff. I liked my desk in the corner with the window and the plant.

As soon as they take away my lovely old computer with its unrestricted internet access (and you can't even change the wallpaper on the new computers!! they want me to sit in front of an ugly blue screen for 8 hours a day!) all my friends will have my work email address, because otherwise I will go mad.
