life on mars

I think I've been threatened by death by more than one person on my flist if I don't spoiler cut this!

Dude! What a great episode to end the series with. There was no way that he couldn't stay in 1973 - otherwise, all the fabulous characters would have been reduced to figments of Sam's mind (are they still? - who knows!). As soon as I saw him on that roof after he realised that he didn't feel alive any more, I knew he was going to jump to try to get back (and who hasn't entertained thoughts of throwing themself off the roof during a partictularly pointless and boring meeting! ;)). And the ending was so right - finally kissing Annie and being part of the team again. Even if he is a soft nancy boy. Heh. I might have even had a few tears...

ETA: Another thing I particularly liked was that as Sam was leaping off the building and when he gets back to 1973 I think we see him smiling more that has throughout the entire series, when he finally is able to make a decision about where he wants to be.

And happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] grammar_glamour and [livejournal.com profile] dogeared!

ETA: I've just had a spam email from 'Paul' which in the subject line claims that 'we will solve your problems instead of you'. Wow! Do you think they can do my job for a week and sort out the problems I'm currently having with Mexico?

Hope it's a good one!

Life on Mars is a BBC show about a policeman who has a car accident in 2006 and when he wakes up he finds himself in 1973. It's basically a cop show but with added 'is he in 1973?', 'is he in a coma?' bits and of course, the aspect of a politically correct 21st century person being out of time and having to deal with the outlook of people 30 years in the past. The characters are by far what makes it so brilliant.

I don't know where you can download it from apart from bittorrent. There's only two seasons with eight episodes each. I'm sure there must be a download comm somewhere on LJ...

I just finished watching it and I have no idea how I feel. On the one hand, yes. All those things. It just never would have worked to have him just leave. And there was some time in there where I was yelling at the writers because he just left them all to die which was So Not On. And I did yell at him a really lot every time Morgan appeared because that guy was just creepy. BUT on the other hand, he did, theoretically, throw himself off a building. But he finally made the decision on where he was supposed to be. But we will never really know if they are or aren't all in his head. But the end with everybody piling into the car and team wonderfulness was perfect. But....

I'm going to have to watch it again methinks. I'm still too jumbled about it all.

that really is the most he's smiled at once in ages. And I love that big goofy smitten smile of his.

I suck at replying!!!

My mum and I were doing the exact same thing!

He did theoretically throw himself off a building (although was that just a waking dream he was having in 1973?! It's all so confusing!) but it was his choice and he knew what he wanted, unlike the rest of the series where he was unable to make the choice about where he was.

And that smile is so cute. :D

I have decided that it was a waking dream he was having in 1973. It wasn't. But it makes me happier because I don't like Sam being deaded. It was so interesting to have the washed out and so... blank now that he found himself suddenly stranded in. Spent all that time trying to get back to it, and finds himself stuck in hell. And he looked so happy when he ran off the building. Which was awesome. John Simm did an absolutely stunning job of all of that stuff. :)

it is. and it makes everybody else smile because of its incredibly cuteness :D

I think that even if he is dead in 2006, he isn't dead in 1973 - I don't think he invented all those people while he was in a coma. (Or yes, I don't like to think that he's dead either!)

He did look so happy - really fabulous acting on his part. I bet it was nice to finally get to smile a lot in an episode!
