I've had a bit of a strange two weeks. Last weekend I did the annual meetup with my uni friends (it's been six years now since I graduated! Very frightening) and we did a murder mystery night which was great fun. I had to wear a gold dress and a gold cowboy hat and pretend to be a Southern Belle. I can't say my American accent was a roaring success but I gave it a go! It was all made rather more hilarious by the unfortunate foul-up in printing the booklets - my friend printed all the .pdf files out at work but didn't look at them in case she saw who the murderer was. Unbeknownst to her, something must have been corrupted in the files and about a third of the text was garbled which led to rather more improv than there should have been - partly in Klingon because that's what it seemed to be written in!

I'm in Nottingham at the moment, working from my mum and dad's house. Unfortunately, while my mum was away in Rome, she developed shingles in her face (!!). Luckily it's not gone into her eye but it's temporarily paralysed the muscle around it so she can't see properly. I think she's got out of bed a couple of times today so she must be feeling better. She's had a couple of trips to the hospital and has taken the course of anti-virals, so touch wood, everything will be fine. It does mean that not only does she feel like poo and can't see, she also can't take the dog out or look after Oscar. Luckily the other girls up at the stables have been great and have been helping out with him. I'll stay down here until Sunday and do what I can.

Oh wow, your poor Mum! Does that take long to clear up? How odd to come back from holidays with shingles! I hope she had a great time in Rome to make up for it.

Also, lmao @ a Klingon murder mystery night! :D

I think the infection is starting to clear up now, but apparently, it could take up to four weeks for her eye to get back to normal. She had a terrible headache before she went to Rome and now we know why. I think she only felt really poorly on the last day so she didn't miss too much!

It was very random! It did make things slightly difficult, but very funny (especially after a few drinks ;)).

It's all very bizarre! She's starting to feel better now I think but it's probably going to take a while. I think she'd enjoy being brought endless cups of tea much more if she could read or watch TV or something!
