Serenity - Firefly Convention

So, the weekend. Definitely the best convention yet (out of the three I've been to!)! I met up with [livejournal.com profile] niannah, [livejournal.com profile] emony, [livejournal.com profile] maryavatar and [livejournal.com profile] naughtyelf. Checking into the hotel on Friday was rather farcical - we had to wait about four hours and then they'd still messed up our rooms! Me and Niannah ended up having to share a double bed. On Saturday morning we had to queue for forty minutes for breakfast! Rubbish. There were so many different queues over the weekend that I decided that I should become a queue spotter and possibly write a book called Queues I Have Seen.

The guests were all amazing. Nathan Fillion was as fabulous as he was last year. Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk were all confirmed beforehand. Ron Glass and Mark Sheppard (Badger) came to fill in for Adam Baldwin who cancelled a week before because of filming. And the final guest was Chris Buchanan who was the producer of Serenity - he had a lot of interesting stuff to say, none of which I can remember I'm sure! All the guests seemed so pleased to be there and overwhelmed by the support they've been getting. Nathan and Alan together on stage were very funny. Ron Glass was also very funny and one lad got up and told him that he has one of the most charming laughs that he'd ever heard. The group talk with everyone on Sunday was brilliant and Summer Glau and Ron Glass both got pretty emotional. They all obviously get along really well and were genuinely pleased to see each other.

The fancy dress competition on Sunday was great. The best ones were the guy who'd dressed up as the statue from Jaynestown and the Washasaurus which was someone with a Wash mask on riding a Tyrannosaurus Rex (ie their legs were the dinosaur legs). Alan Tudyk was amazed!

I had a group photo with everyone (which Bean has now clawed slightly!!) in which I look awful, one with Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk and one with Morena Baccarin and Nathan Fillion (and yes - in case you were wondering - Nathan is still slightly squishy). Morena is absolutely gorgeous.

Friday night I got my cowboy hat out and Niannah dressed up too. Sunday was Companions and Shepherds night so me, Mary and Niannah got dressed up in dresses which was fun (apart from the bit where I had to sit on the dance floor during the closing ceremony and try not to expose myself).

A camera crew from Universal (the studio that's made Serenity) came on Sunday and took a lot of general shots and they also filmed a reaction shot of the crowd watching the trailer for the film which was pretty cool.

Anyway, it was very very cool and I just can't wait for the film to come out (first week of October for us UK folk). I think we'll definitely be heading to Serenity Squared in November!

Boris Johnson is crazy. <3

October? Empire has it listed as 4th November. I hope you're right.

Chris Buchanan seemed to think that it would be released here a week after the US and currently it's due out in the US on 30th September. But of course that'll probably change!
