More Half Blood Prince Thoughts

Some more thoughts about HBP.

I really, really enjoyed it. I'm sure it's not the best writing I've ever seen but it's still gripping stuff as far as I'm concerned. I'm rubbish at spotting plot twists and development ahead of time so everything always takes me by surprise which is nice I guess!

- Zombies! Creepy, floating in the lake Marshes of the Dead style zombies! Loved that whole lake bit.
- Harry ripping Draco's chest open with a curse that actually tears flesh and causes pools of blood. Great stuff.
- I'm not totally convinced that Snape is evil. I've seen some quite convincing wanfanks to the contrary. Interesting.
- I didn't believe that Dumbledore was going to die until we saw his body.
- I didn't get that Snape was the Half Blood Prince until it was spelled out to me. *facepalm*
- I've never been that much of a Draco fan but I liked his arc in this. Definitely makes him more interesting for me.
- Speculation that R.A.B. is Regulus Black - very interesting and I can see it would fit.
- No explanation of the veil. Sirius is dead and no discussion. Why such an ambiguous end for Sirius?
- Remus being undercover in the werewolf community. I love all the werewolf canon and the fact that Remus knows who bit him now.
- I liked Harry a lot more in this book than I did in OotP. I was very glad to see the back of CAPSLOCK RAGE. I love the fact that they're all growing up and it shows.
- Canon vampires!
- Ron getting called Rupert. Heh.
- Has JKR been reading too much fanfic? Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Bill/Fleur, Remus/...Tonks. Personally I was in the camp of 'JKR won't pair any of the main characters up'. Guess I was way, way wrong...

Because you know I have to address this:

Remus/Tonks?! I so didn't see that coming. Tonks' love is pastede on yay. I did think that Tonks' character got a bit shafted - pining for Remus so it makes her ill? Grabbing his robes in desperation? Making Bill's hideous maiming (OMG!) all about her? Meh. I have read Remus/Tonks that I've liked but I don't like the way that JKR handled it. But hey, at least Remus gets some happiness, bless him! And there's no way that this in anyway negates Sirius/Remus for me. Sirius is dead-by-drapery at this point so in no way does it impact on Sirius and Remus' relationship.

Some of the wank this is spawning is hilarious though - I've heard that apparently JKR is a homophobe for not explicitly referencing Sirius/Remus. Um. OK! Newsflash: Sirius/Remus was never canon.

And from a Tonks/Remus shipper on some hideous community or other that I came across on friendsfriends:

I bought the book after seeing the page...THE PAGE. Omg!!! Me and my three friends were SQUEEing and jumping up and down and SO LOVING IT. We were all talking about how they were gonna get married and have colour-changing pups and she couldn't be called Tonks anymore unless she was a feminist, then she'd be Tonks Lupin! XD

OMG! Unless she's a feminist! *gasp*

HBP: The Rude Bits. Yes, I am twelve!

I hope my spoiler cut works...

It was amazing wasn't it! Draco lying in a pool of blood. I really didn't expect that from a HP book.

Dumbledore and Snape had an entirely telepathic conversation in the time that they were looking at each other before Snape cast the AK, what with both being Legilimens and all. It's an interesting theory.

I just can't believe somehow that he really is on the other side. There are too many things that don't add up. I can see that theory being true. On the other hand, it's probably more than likely that Snape was a double double agent and is really working for Voldemort...

they found a chain and locket which none of them could open.

I saw a discussion about that and it seems to fit so neatly doesn't it. Of course, RAB might be an entirely random person but I hope it's someone we already know.

it wasn't just random chance that he was bitten

Oh god - so tragic. I wonder if he doesn't hold some resentment towares his father because it was, in a sense, his fault that he's a werewolf.
