argh

Oh for fucks sake. My brother has been at home for less than a week and he's already infested my old PC downstairs with a phenomenal amount of spyware. I've not been able to get the virus checker to work on it since I bought it and I'm about ready to drop the whole lot on the floor. And now the effing thing won't even start up properly. I love my laptop. May it never leave me.

If you run the McAfee Stinger, that should clear off the really evil stuff, leaving you clear to update and run AVG (and your check your firewall). Once you've got that done, update your security patches and run Ad Aware.

That's how I got rid of all the crap I was infested with last month. If you have any difficulty getting ahold of Stinger, let me know, I have it on file.

I think I've got rid of most of the spyware with AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy. But the main problem I'm having is that I got some new virus software last month (McAfee) which is brilliant on my laptop but I just can't get it to work properly on this stupid Windows ME PC. It just fucks everything up. i can only start in safe mode at the moment...

Yeah, that was me being horribly optimistic. I think I'll have to have a go with the McAfee Stinger tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

Computers are personal for a reason. You should never let family near them.

Nobody ever comes near my laptop. I'd set up protective shields around it if I could! My old PC is the only other computer in the house and since I got the laptop everyone else uses it. Unfortunately it still comes down to me to fix it when it goes wrong - which is often when the brother is at home.

That's a very good plan. Apart from the fact that he wouldn't know how to get rid of all the crap if his life depended on it. Idiot. I've found about 2035973405 viruses today as well. Joy.
