GIANT furniture
I've finally finished sorting my bedroom out now. My giant desk, giant shelves on my giant desk and my giant chair are all tidy and up and running. (and how can I forget my giant bed that I've had nearly a year now). I have candles too. And also the last of my bottle of vanilla vodka. And some long Sirius/Remus fic that the lovely
niannah recced to me. And my fossil ammonite on the shelf in front of me. (Why does this Semagic spell check not recognise ammonite as being a correct word? Bah.)
I should post pictures of my giant furniture. And the stone painted like a cat that my friend got me for my birthday. I also should do a phone post one of these days so you can all marvel at my dreadful accent.
Yis folks, it's true, I've been at the vodka. Can you tell?

niannah has just posted a gorgeous Sirius/Remus ficlet - Three Consecutive Octobers. Marauder era getting together fic. My favourite.

I hope you enjoy The Dating Disasters of Sirius Black. I went to the author's LJ and am now shamelessly using her for recs. Wow, read an amazing one just there, a Lie Low at Lupin's one. This Their Desolation. It even quotes a Byron poem that I have been specifically thinking of lately! Sad and gorgeous.
Lovely vodka. Golly, I think I could do with some myself.

I am enjoying it so far! I recently read another one of hers - A Holiday of Sorts. A strange take on the S/R dynamic, but totally believeable. Crap. i can't spell tonight. I need to update my recs post actually. I've done so much fic reading lately.

I had just started reading A Holiday of Sorts before you mentioned it there. It's certainly a new take, but it's beautifully written and I'm loving it. Also... is it me, or is it rarer to have Sirius POV fics? Although... lol, I just wrote one. Perhaps I just think that because SBP is mostly Remus POV, as is TDDOSB, so I just have that general impression.
I don't know if there's an official spelling of Thumbelina, but I spell it that way because of the book I had when I was a child.
It's great owning one's own furniture, isn't it! I have a rather large trunk which I filled today with stuff to bring to the apartment tomorrow. All day I was happily thinking about how I was packing my trunk. I felt very Harry Potter! *G*

Oh, it's a lovely fic - lots of snow and uncertainty (is that a word?!).
I think Sirius POV is definitely rarer. I remember seeing a discussion on it once many moons ago. Maybe people identify with fandom Remus more - bookish and quiet rather than brash and popular.
It is! I own my lovely, glass topped, giant furniture. I currently have a giant cat on my giant bed too.
Did you remember to pack your wand? I hope so! Very exciting eh? My trunk is in the garage somewhere. It used to be my dad's when he went to uni and I always imagine that when I think of Harry's trunk. I'll have to take up your offer of the spare mattress sometime and see your new flat! I'd love to come back to Dublin - the air fare is not much more than a couple of hours on the train.

I read it! It's gorgeous. I am glad I found her stuff, it's so well written.
Yes, I am certainly more like Remus than Sirius, and I don't imagine too many brash and popular (in RL) people hang around writing fanfic, lol. From that point of view it stands to reason more people would write from Remus' perspective.
Glass-topped? Fancy!
I did pack my wand! And about a hundred scarves. I don't know where they come from, but obviously I have to bring them all. And hats. My trunk is supposed to be a stationary furniture type wooden thing, but it's still a trunk. I am now quite jealous of your proper travelling trunk.
Oh, I hope you do get over here! That would be lovely. And a free mattress too. Orthopaedic, so it's good for your back!

It's lovely isn't it! Can't remember how I ended up on her journal but she seems lovely and I traumatised her with the Hoff when she came over here! Heh.
That was my theory with regards to the Remus POV anyway. I suppose people are more likely to write characters they identify with - though a lot of the MWPP era stuff is purely fanon characterisation but I definitely enjoy it. I much prefer minor character fandom. I usually get all I want from main characters from the source text.
Oh good - wands are very useful when it comes to washing up. Scarves are good too (but not for washing up). I've got a lovely stripey one that I got last winter. I think my trunk got a bit damp in the garage so I'm not sure if it's useable now. :( It served me well though.
It would be cool! Maybe we ought to aim for some Brokeback Mountain cinema going! And I like a good, hard mattress. There's nothing worse than one that's so squishy that it dips when you sit on it.

I think you're probably right. The MWPP (see how easily I bandy about the acronym now?) era characterisation is entirely based on the glimpses we had of them in the pensieve and Snape's memory, and a bit of retro-projection, isn't it? Although it has to be said that it's fairly uniform throughout the fandom, especially Sirius.
I will try to remember to use the wand for washing up and the scarves to keep warm. Good point. Stripey ones are the best, though I got a nice blue one this year. It seduced me with it's perfect shade of blue.
Maybe we ought to aim for some Brokeback Mountain cinema going!
That is an utterly top class idea. Yes, let's try to sort that out. I reckon this mattress is good - it's one of two, and the girl who used to live in the flat was raving about how it was the most comfortable mattress ever, so even if Brokeback Mountain doesn't tempt you, the mattress hopefully will! *g*
