I ended up going to bed at half past one last night because I was finishing this McKay/Sheppard fic: Indelible. It's ridiculously long (c.130,000 words) although I wished it was longer, it's got proper plot - proper sci-fi plot with a brilliant space battle, a really interesting and likeable OC (I almost wish she was on the show!), and everyone is in character. Really, really good and definitely worth sticking with until the end.

It is worth persisting with (IMO anyway!). Spanking is not something which draws me into a fic (as you say, cringeworthy) but it's such a small part of the whole thing that it doesn't matter. The beginning is very much the cliche 'aliens almost make us do it, with added kink' but the rest is not that at all.
