ETA: I just found a brilliantly horrifying article about merkins. It's halfway down the page.

The Oxford Companion recounts an amusing tale of one gentleman who procured the disease-riddled merkin of a prostitute, dried it, gave it a good comb and then presented it to a cardinal, telling him he had brought him St Peter's beard.

When I was at school the 60s magazine Nova was briefly revived. Being a devotee of fashion I duly bought it, but was a bit baffled that one of the main spreads was on the subject of merkins, including one dyed to given the effect of the union jack (this was during the whole Cool Britannia thing). Not surprisingly the revival only lasted for about 2 issues.

I just looked Peter Wingfield up on imdb, apparently he's a former National Trampoline Champion. I did not know that.

I did, but that's because I was deeply obsessed back when I had 18 hours a day to spend hunting down bizarre trivia and screencaps of Methos in his boxers.

I'm horrified to discover that I don't have a single Methos icon on my LJ O.o

that's such the lovely desktop. Seriously, Merlin is too shiny to exist. and I'm so glad that it does (why is it not Saturday yet?)
