star trek

I'm still about, but lurking mostly (obviously!). The job's still making my brain mush and I'm quite knackered but I'm not dead.

Anyway, the main reason I'm posting is because I've just seen Simon Pegg on the Jonathan Ross show and I can't wait to see the new Star Trek film! I really hope it's not crap. I think I've only been to the cinema once this year and that was to see Watchmen. <3

Wow, what a worthwhile post this was! I'm so eloquent after half a bottle of wine...

ETA: I'm just about to watch The Trouble With Tribbles - what a rockin' Friday night! ;)

ETA2: Yes, I did see new Doctor Who and new Red Dwarf. Doctor Who - slightly meh. Not fussed about Eastenders girl but still <3 Ten. Red Dwarf - I surprisingly enjoyed it quite a lot. Huh.

ETA3: I feel like I may dip my toe back into Merlin fic. My toe may rot off with some horrible disease but it would feel good while it's happening.

Apologies folks for the drinking and posting. It's never going to be pretty.

The general buzz seems to be positive about the new Star Trek, though when the reviews starting talking about Spock and Kirk's "rocky path to friendship" I did start having Merlin flashbacks...

How long have you not been toe-dipping with Merlin? If you need any recs (RPS or fic or CRACK!1!) just let me know :)

It's always going to be good when there's a rocky path to a close friendship!

I've not been toe-dipping since about January I think. I'll take any recs you've got! (Apart from AUs I guess - not a big fan) I think I need some Merlin in my life again!

Star Trek is good, but Simon Pegg's character is ... awful, painful, the Jar Jar Binks of Star Trek.

I'm glad you think it's good! I've heard mixed opinions on Scotty so there's nothing for it but to go and watch it myself I think. What a chore...

Unlike the last commenter, I didn't mind Simon Pegg's Scotty--he's played for laughs in the original, too.

Did you like the rest of the film? I'm looking forward to making my own mind up about it! Yay!

Tribbles you say? Icoooooooooooooooooooooooon!

I have also only been to the cinema once this year! Again, for Watchmen. I am so worried about the new Star Trek D:, I haven't liked the trailers. PLEASE DON'T SUCK!

I thought the new Doctor Who special was a bit boring too. I only watched the first episode of the Red Dwarf come back...I watched it in a room full of people, like ten of us, and there was just this awful stony silence, no one even smiled throughout the whole thing. We'd all been massive Red Dwarf fans as kids...I think it probably seemed worse because everyone else seemed to hate it so much. I might watch the other two episodes at some point.

Oh man. That icon is awesome!!! It's years since I saw that episode! <3

I was a massive Red Dwarf fan back in the day too and I was prepared to hate it but I couldn't seem to. Maybe if I'd watched it with other people that hated it, it might have coloured my opinion somewhat - but watching it on my own I liked it. It was nothing to the classic episodes that were on before and after it but still - it was better than all of the last season put together!
