Look at my spiffy Brokeback Mountain icon that [livejournal.com profile] niannah made!

So the first two days in my new job went okay. There's so much stuff for me to learn as I have no background in the area whatsoever. I must say it's been quite nice to use my brain again. All the people I've met and spoken to so far seem really friendly and helpful so that's good.

The bad thing is that I haven't gone into work today as when I woke up, I looked in the bathroom mirror and realised that the left side of my face was swelled up, rather like it does when I've taken aspirin. I had to take my inhaler and I've been itchy all over. God knows what I'm allergic to now. I went to the doctors and got some antihistamines but they don't seem to have worked as yet. I guess I'll have to see if it happens again and see what the cause is. I'm just hoping it's not the cats...

I saw this on the news last night:

A Euro MP for the UK Independence Party has sparked controversy hours into his first day in the Strasbourg parliament.

Godfrey Bloom was given a seat on the European Parliament's women's rights committee on Tuesday.

But he told the media: "No self-respecting small businessman with a brain in the right place would ever employ a lady of child-bearing age."

Mr Bloom, an investment fund manager from York, told journalists he wanted to deal with women's issues because: "I just don't think they clean behind the fridge enough".

"I am here to represent Yorkshire women who always have dinner on the table when you get home. I am going to promote men's rights," he added.

I have no words.

I'm just going to take a moment to pimp one of my favourite communities of the moment: [livejournal.com profile] shacking_up. It's a closed Sirius/Remus community where all manner of fabulous fics, fic recs and art are posted.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go to the [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project and press refresh repeatedly in the vain hope that it will be updated.

I think afterwards he said his comments were 'for fun'. Crazy, crazy man. Perhaps he needs to learn the definition of fun...

I have an intensely offensive sense of humour, so I did kinda find it funny. :\ It reminds me of the way my friends and I handed a debate in Psychology class when we were forced to argue for genetic modification for human babies. Basically we went insane and claimed we weren't having any stupid people, any homosexuals, etc, etc, to the point of almost reducing some of our fellow classmates to tears.

Hrm. I'm a little bit evil, I think.

Nothing wrong with being a bit evil...

I must admit to laughing at what he said when I heard it on the news last night - mostly out of disbelief. And then the news reader laughed - also a women of childbearing age. Unfortunately I kind of think that he wasn't having a joke when he made the child bearing age comment. Fucktard.

Yeah. But I can see his point. If men were given the same sort of paternity leave then it'd all be fair enough.. *shrugs* I don't know why I'm defending him. Just because I'm contrary, I think.

I can sort of see where he's coming from in that respect but he's still an obnoxious fuck!
