I've been having driving lessons for the last few weeks and I had my third one this evening. I had about twenty-five or so lessons five years ago and so I'm slowly remembering what I should be doing now! Of course, when I had my lessons before, it was when I was living in the middle of nowhere near Aberdeen (north-east Scotland) where there was only one set of traffic lights, no roundabouts, no traffic and many one track roads. It's a bit of a shock to the system now to have to dodge parked cars and try and avoid running over idiotic children on bikes. I did my first ever roundabouts today and it wasn't too bad actually (probably because the roads were deserted because everyone bar me was watching the football - the lack of cars on the road was bizarre). I had a moment when I went into fourth instead of second when I was on the roundabout but apart from that it was great.

Wednesday and Thursday next week I'm going on a project management training course with work. I'm very frightened because it's being run by the really scary lady that's made quite a few people resign. I'm just going to try and appear invisible so she doesn't single me out for anything. Then again, she'll probably single me out because I'm trying to appear invisible. Do you think anyone will mind if I take my duvet to hide under?

I bit the bullet and went on ebay the other night to get an electric fence energiser to replace the one that was nicked last weekend. I'm still very pissed off about that. They made up with about £400 worth of stuff. Why are people such shits? People keep asking me if we've got insurance or we're going to get it. I keep explaining that it's very hard to get contents insurance for unoccupied outbuildings (especially when it's an old lorry back and not even made from brick) on land you don't own but no one seems to believe me. If anyone has any suggestions - speak up!

I've only got two episodes left to go of Supernatural season 1 now. I think I may need some icons. But not icons of the episode with the murderous painting because it really freaked me out! I really should stop watching it just as I'm about to go to bed!

Apart from watching Supernatural I've been feeling very disconnected from fandom recently. I've not got much time in the evenings at the moment and there's no new shows on. Are there any fabulous fics that I should have read recently? McKay/Sheppard, Sirius/Remus (I was listening to VAST's 'I Don't Have Anything' song on the way home today and felt all nostalgic for some good old S/R angst fic) or maybe Jared/Jenson?

When I was learning to drive I was terrified of cyclists (they go slowly and wobble!) so my driving instructor made me drive into the centre of Oxford specifically for cyclist-dodging practice. And he used to make me drive down narrow streets between parked cars for the same reason. He was pure evil.

Ninjas would be great. I'll add them to my wishlist of antipersonnel land mines, attaching the locks directly to the mains, bear traps and attack badgers.

This kid today really did just ride off the pavement into the road not very far in front of me. I was going 'no! I'm a learner! I haven't done an emergency stop yet'!

Yes, Oxford is a lot like Cambridge that way. One of my old teachers went to Oxford and had this crazy tutor who rode a bike around the city. He used to keep a bag of gravel in the bike-basket and threw handfuls of it at cars that got too close to him! Nothing like that happened to me, thankfully. I probably would have had a heart-attack.

Having an army of attack badgers has been a dream of mine for many a year. They would be very useful in many situations.

That's hilarious! I bet he used to get some abuse! I think I'd probably crash if someone did that to me! A couple of my friends at uni used to (and still do) go everywhere on bikes and there was more than one occasion where they almost got squashed by buses turning left in front of them.

I know what to do in principle but I haven't really got back that level of confidence yet. Besides, that's what the dual controls in the driving instructors car are for. ;)

I've been feeling disconnected from fandom too, because even though I love Jsquared, I don't really know that many other people who do, so I feel like I'm out on my own wandering around. I am not reading so much SGA these days because I think I've read every possible permutation of everything we know until the next season starts. I probably haven't, but that's how it feels. I really want to retreat into LOTR/Troy RPS but I can't find good stuff anywhere! (I may just have to sodding write it.)

I wish I had recs for you but I don't. :(

LJ is a bit weird for fandoms that you don't know many people in. It's hard to find where you need to be looking for (good) new stuff and most of the time that's because it's on people's journals, not on the comms. I suppose the news letters that every fandom seems to have nowadays are helpful.

My problem with Jsquared is that I don't have the context. They're pretty and they have great chemistry together on-screen but I know absolutely nothing about them. I've never read or seen an interview with them and I've hardly even seen any photos of them together. The reason I could love Lotrips so much is because there was almost a canon. We could see all the interviews and features with them and follow the 'story' over the years they were filming and afterwards.

I know exactly what you mean. I've hardly read any SGA stuff recently and nothing regularly since... *checks del.icio.us account* since the beginning of May. I still have mad love for McKay/Sheppard but there doesn't seem to be much new stuff around at the moment.

I watch Supernatural in the morning! I try to put as many hours between the episodes and bedtime. Are you crazy? It's SCARY.

If I didn't have to work, the morning would definitely be my Supernatural watching time! I get lulled into a false sense of security with that show - one episode it's not scary at all (e.g. killer trucks) and the next it's really freaky (e.g. killer scarecrows)!

I know! I think that's why it feels like watching the XFiles all over again, it has that sense of familiarity but then BAM! SCARY!!!

I've been reading Supernatural/Grey's Anatomy crossovers. *dies* :D

It is very X-Files like isn't it. I forget now how weird and freaky the X-Files was and when I see an old episode I remember that it was actually quite scary.

I've never watched Grey's Anatomy. Any good? Doesn't it have Papa Winchester in?!

Oh, it's very good. It's one of those weird shows that make you say 'bleh' but then you watch an episode and you realise it's the best thing on tv right now.

IT DOES!! And he's SO cute. He says cute things like "Dr. Bailey, I tricked her into marrying me. How smart am I?" &hearts
