I've been down to see my friend in Coventry this weekend which was lovely. I drove down and back but avoiding motorways still. I think I'll have to tackle a motorway this month. On the way back I had to negotiate Nuneaton (which I thought only existed if you had to change trains there) and its one way system in torrential rain. Luckily I had my trusty GPS navigation which got me through ok!

Back at work tomorrow. Poo. The bank holiday at the end of this month is the last one now until August (when I might already be up in Hull!). I think they should add more bank holidays to the calendar. Preferably during the summer and maybe one in autumn as well. I also think that I should be able to work a three day week from ten 'til two on full pay. Oh well. I can dream can't I?

I hope we get some rain up here. Apparently it's only drizzled here over the weekend and I need rain on the field to get some grass through and get the herbicide spray for the ragwort to start working faster. Damn poisonous weeds. Why won't they die??

Oh - and no Doctor Who next weekend because of the Eurovision Song Contest? WTF? I admit that the Eurovision is compulsive car crash TV but still, it shouldn't deprive me of my Tennant fix.
odycee: (Doctor Who - Ten)
I seem to have been running around like a headless chicken for the last week - I didn't get to watch the new Doctor Who until Monday!!!!1!1

I was in Germany for a meeting on Monday evening and Tuesday (and the only freak weather this time was sun! It was beautiful!) so missed two days there and spent Sunday driving to Oxford and back to see my brother and his girlfriend's flat (very posh). I drove there and back without doing a motorway which is probably why the journey took three hours instead of one and three-quarters! I did do some very large dual-carriage ways though and once got up to a nose-bleeding speed of 78mph!! My car is now covered in dead insects so not only am I contributing to global warming (although I'm enjoying this freakish weather at the moment! ;)) through my exhaust emissions, I'm now also responsible for squishing many flies. Woe.

[livejournal.com profile] niannah - nag me tomorrow to book the hotel for G3. I got the number this afternoon but then didn't have time to do it.

ETA: Communications Course: How to respond to rude emails in your personal or professional life. Heh. It amused me!

Also, Beatbox Cooking - this is bizarre and funny!:

In other news, I picked a car up today. Yes, I now own a silver 02 reg Ford Ka! Getting the cash out of the bank for that was quite traumatising! I drove it home and it's so easy and nice to drive. I don't think I'm quite ready to drive to work yet though - maybe next week when I've had a bit more time to get used to it.

I do feel very guilty about owning a car (omg! I'm destroying the planet now like everyone else etc.) but I don't think I'll be using it every day to go to work, as what's the point when I can still get a lift in and out of work some days? It will make life a hell of a lot easier though as currently, there's no way for me to get up to the field to do the horses without a lift from someone as it's too far to walk and there are no buses there.

Yay car!

ETA: And also, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Cover Art including the blurbs. Yay!

scary!

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] blackgarden and [livejournal.com profile] flatlanddan! Hope it's a good one!

On Thursday night I took Dad's car out by myself and went up to do the horses. It was a bit nerve wracking but I got there and back in one piece and that's all that counts! It was really strange being in a car completely by myself. Very strange! Just before I set off I was talking to my mum as I was walking towards the car and she said 'what are you doing?' because I'd gone round to the left hand side to get in the passenger door. D'oh!

I've been looking at what car I want to get and I've no idea. So far I'm thinking a Ford Ka or Fiesta. There seems to be plenty of not very old ones around to choose from. I keep having little moments though where I go - omg, I can't be allowed to own my own car! That's for grown-ups!

Come on Supernatural download! Hurry up and finish!

passed!!!

I just passed my driving test! With only three minor faults! Hurrah! I can't quite believe that I'm allowed to go out on the roads by myself though. Now I just need a car...
odycee: (Farscape - John/Aeryn - bed)
I've got my driving test in just under a fortnight. AaAaAaAaAaaaaaaaarghHHH. £50 down the drain when I fail! I might not fail but I need to 'manage my expectations'. AaAaAaAaAaaaaaaaarghHHH (and that exclamation is partially because I use terrible phrases like that in every day speech after working for evil corporations for too long). I'm going to try to convince my mum to come out with me tomorrow to practice some manoeuvres in my dad's car (I'm not insured for my mum's as it's too big and would cost too much).

For some reason, I really fancy watching an episode of Farscape. Maybe I'll dig out some old school season two to watch before I go to bed. I still think that Farscape is my favourite show ever. It's just... for some reason, it conjures the feeling that I get from some Sirius/Remus fic. Perhaps because of the two Johns story line and how it ends. Hmmm. Maybe I like tragedy.

I passed my driving theory test this afternoon! \o/ I didn't think I would pass because I hadn't done any revision because of what's been going on recently, but I did. I got 35 out of 35 for the multiple choice questions (and my god, if you get some of those questions wrong you don't deserve to operate a cigarette lighter, let alone a car) and 69 out of 75 for the hazard perception part. If only the proper practical test was this easy...

The other news I have is that my friend met David Hasslehoff at a book signing this week!!! omg!

I've not been at home properly again since Monday. I miss you guys. :( I'm all disconnected from fandom again. If anyone has any links to tag fics from McKay and Mrs Miller (McKay/Sheppard of course!) then I'd be very grateful for them. ;)

My mum put me on my dad's car insurance yesterday so hopefully this weekend I'll be able to get some extra driving practice in! I've got a lesson at seven - a bit late really but I've got to take what I can get since I lost my regular slot when I went on holiday. I actually booked my theory test a few days ago. It's not until the middle of September, but I figure that should be ample time to procrastinate and do no preparation and then think 'shit. I should actually do something here'.

I watched Sateda a couple of days ago.brief SGA spoilers )

I will put some holiday photos up this week. Honest.

I've been having driving lessons for the last few weeks and I had my third one this evening. I had about twenty-five or so lessons five years ago and so I'm slowly remembering what I should be doing now! Of course, when I had my lessons before, it was when I was living in the middle of nowhere near Aberdeen (north-east Scotland) where there was only one set of traffic lights, no roundabouts, no traffic and many one track roads. It's a bit of a shock to the system now to have to dodge parked cars and try and avoid running over idiotic children on bikes. I did my first ever roundabouts today and it wasn't too bad actually (probably because the roads were deserted because everyone bar me was watching the football - the lack of cars on the road was bizarre). I had a moment when I went into fourth instead of second when I was on the roundabout but apart from that it was great.

Wednesday and Thursday next week I'm going on a project management training course with work. I'm very frightened because it's being run by the really scary lady that's made quite a few people resign. I'm just going to try and appear invisible so she doesn't single me out for anything. Then again, she'll probably single me out because I'm trying to appear invisible. Do you think anyone will mind if I take my duvet to hide under?

I bit the bullet and went on ebay the other night to get an electric fence energiser to replace the one that was nicked last weekend. I'm still very pissed off about that. They made up with about £400 worth of stuff. Why are people such shits? People keep asking me if we've got insurance or we're going to get it. I keep explaining that it's very hard to get contents insurance for unoccupied outbuildings (especially when it's an old lorry back and not even made from brick) on land you don't own but no one seems to believe me. If anyone has any suggestions - speak up!

I've only got two episodes left to go of Supernatural season 1 now. I think I may need some icons. But not icons of the episode with the murderous painting because it really freaked me out! I really should stop watching it just as I'm about to go to bed!

Apart from watching Supernatural I've been feeling very disconnected from fandom recently. I've not got much time in the evenings at the moment and there's no new shows on. Are there any fabulous fics that I should have read recently? McKay/Sheppard, Sirius/Remus (I was listening to VAST's 'I Don't Have Anything' song on the way home today and felt all nostalgic for some good old S/R angst fic) or maybe Jared/Jenson?

Why does my internet always die just as I'm about to post?
