odycee: (Star Trek TNG - Deanna - a mind reader?)
In view of the fact that I'm going to be moving out of here in a few months I've been going through some of my stuff. Oh my god. I keep everything. I have instruction manuals for electrical items which died about ten years ago. Although what is nice about being a hoarder is that I can look at letters that my friends wrote to me in 1993 and look at my old passports and train tickets and cinema tickets and remember what I was doing on 23rd September 1999 if I so wish. I think I've kept every single cinema ticket since about 1999. Is that a bit strange?

What's most upsetting is the vast amount of videos I have of things I've recorded off the TV. Odyssey 5, seasons 2 and 5 of Angel, season 3 of Smallville, seasons 1 and 2 of Enterprise, seasons 5, 6 and 7 of SG-1 (1 - 4 are on DVD - I donated the video copies to a friend), every single episode of Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation and Voyager (god knows why), season 7 of Buffy and probably some other random things like 24. Some of these I've got on DVD now and some I'm never going to watch again (season 3 Smallville, I'm looking at you). Do I just lob the ones I don't want in the dustbin? That feels really wrong somehow.

In other news, the weather has been really crappy this weekend and Oscar went totally lame after the farrier came out on Saturday. He had to have his shoes taken off but that only seemed to make him worse. He's a little better now but he doesn't want to put his left fore foot down. Hmmm. I'm not sure if the farrier has nicked him with a nail. If he's no better tomorrow the farrier's going to have to come out and have another look at him. Arse.

We had an incident that's funny, but not actually that funny when you think about what could have happened - one of the other horses on the field swallowed the string on a balloon that had floated into our field (Happy 40th Birthday!). Of course, the balloon was still attached to the end of the string hanging out of his mouth and it followed him around. He completely freaked out and we could only catch him when he was so tired that he couldn't run any more. The string came out okay and all was fine. It could have been nasty, but I'm just left with this image of a pony running around with a balloon trailing behind him.

I watched the Supernatural finale yesterday. I've watched the whole series in about two weeks! Thanks again for being my dealer, [livejournal.com profile] niannah!

spoilers for SPN 1x22 )

In other news, I hurt all over because I spent the best part of yesterday at the field doing more ragwort spraying. And damn, it was too hot for that. Unfortunately I had my watch on while I was doing it and now I've got a comedy tan through the holes in the strap. D'oh.

I'm really struggling to keep up with LJ at the moment. I think it's the time of year - I'm not usually in until seven or eight at night after I've been to the field.

I'm still enjoying Supernatural. Some of the plots are fairly cliched (and I love the imaginative (!) episode titles - Hook Man!) but it's enjoyable nevertheless. I must say I prefer Jared Whateverhisnameis to Jenson Ackles, although yes, they're both quite pretty.

So, you knew it would be coming at some point - SPN RPS. Anyone got anything they want to rec me? :D

I rode for the first time in ages last night after work. It's stupid because I feel like I haven't got the time to ride because there's so much other stuff to do up there - picking up poo, pulling/spraying ragwort, mending fences, checking the electric fence, cutting down the brambles and gorse that keep growing up. And it's just never ending! But what's the point in having the horses if I don't ride? (Not that I can ride Oscar at the moment anyway but that's not the point.)

After we'd ridden we went straight to the pub for something to eat. Unfortunately that meant that we went in our smelly stable clothes! I tried not to let Oscar rub his face on me after his dinner and I almost succeeded. I only has a small patch of bright green grass nuts on my t-shirt.

Only one episode of Battlestar Galactica season two left to go! Even though everyone else that cares watched it months ago when it aired. Oh well. I think I'll have to download next season because then I get to see all the discussion.

Oscar was spectacularly lame this evening. I haven't seen him this bad for a year or so. Poor thing. I think I need to start feeding him painkillers every day again for a while. On the plus side though - we've managed to catch up with all the muck in the field now so it shouldn't be too hard to keep on top of it (but oh god, pushing a barrow of shit up that hill kills me). Now we just need to sort out the flourishing ragwort plants of hell and we're ok...

odycee: (HP - Neville - I killed Harry Potter!)
I was torn between posting with my new Robert Pattinson icon and this Neville one by [livejournal.com profile] grrliz_icons. The Neville one won. Awwww.

I'm pretty sure that the internal sound on my laptop is gone for good now. But now I have an external soundcard that means I can hear things again. Hurrah! What an idiot I am. My poor computer. :(

My mum went to the field by herself this morning as she had a lie-in yesterday while I went. I had a long lie-in and now I feel very rested and like I've caught up on the last three weeks of sleep. Yay sleep. An update on mucking out - I'm still crap (haha - pun unintentional) at mucking out wood shavings. There was poo everywhere and it took me a ridiculously long time. No one would employ me as a groom.

ETA: If you want a Christmas/holiday card from me - go and comment on this post.

It's got cold enough this week to put the horses in overnight for the winter. My hands are rough already! They're both bedded down on wood shavings instead of straw this year to try and control Kaz's cough. I'm not entirely sure how to muck out a shavings bed so this morning was spent picking up small pieces of poo with rubber gloves wondering how on earth you're supposed to do it without taking 23949028 hours. Hmmm. I think we need to get a shavings fork.

I rode Kaz yesterday and she was dripping with sweat by the time we got back. I daren't get on Oscar - I'm frightened that his riding days have come to an end. He's pretty much lame all the time now and he looks like such an old man. Maybe I'll try and get on him the weekend after the con (OMG next weekend!)

I found a huge spider in the hay barn yesterday. It was almost as big as my palm with its legs outstretched. Not that I picked it up with my hands - I just coaxed it on to a pair of scissors to try and take a photo that didn't come out.

When we got home from the field this afternoon there was dog sick everywhere. I'm not sure why but it was the most unpleasant sick I've ever had the misfortune to come across. Nice. And now I'm going to go and watch Nip/Tuck before I traumatise you any further.
odycee: (BTVS - In my plan we are beltless!)
I rode Oscar today for the first time in about four months. He went quite well and didn't really feel lame at all which is brilliant. He was pretty well behaved too which is a minor miracle. He did bolt when a large brown dog leaped out from the trees and chased him but I think I'll forgive him for that. Did I get an apology from the dog's owner? Did I hell. Ignorant wanker.

I have furthered my quest to fill my room with giant furniture by buying a giant desk chair today. My task for tomorrow is to assemble it. Yay for giant furniture! I now need to go to bed as I have spent far too much time buying said giant furniture and moving other giant furniture around.

odycee: (Firefly - Mine is an evil laugh!)
I've got tickets to see Serenity in Nottingham on the 20th of September!! Yay! How cool is that!

Another rec from me: I finally got around to reading [livejournal.com profile] prankstersguide. It's a (mostly) Marauder era collaboration with fics centered around a book the Marauders wrote called the Pranksters Guide. It's hilarious in some places and quite poignant in others. And one of the only places where I've seen Peter as Scabbers fic.

I finally got my mp3 player replaced yesterday and spent ages yesterday putting all the music back on. Hopefully this will last a bit longer than eight months... I'm a bit worried because as I said a few entries back, it seems like I'm not the only one that this has happened too. Bugger. I still love the little thing though and it keeps me entertained on the bus to work.

I think I may try and ride Oscar tomorrow. He's got some shoes back on, I've been giving him anti-inflammatory stuff and the ground is a bit softer now so hopefully he'll be ok. We'll see.

I've just looked back at my entries for the past month or so and none of them are much longer than a paragraph! I quite clearly suck at journalling. And I still don't have anything to say despite realising that. Ah well. I never seem to really say anything much about my personal life any more. Then again, I've never pretended that this journal was anything more than shallow fannish squee. I kept wanting to say something about the terrible devastation and tragedy that Hurricane Katrina left in its wake but I just didn't have the words. I can't understand how the rescue operations took so long and were such a mess but I'm very glad to see that the people are finally getting help.
