my brain

I'm going to be one of those annoying people who posts about their TV show dreams. Last night I dreamt Atlantis slash kid fic with my own OCs even though I've only read about two Atlantis fics in the last six months.

I was watching one of the last episodes of Atlantis and it was a team of people (not our guys) on a mission. They got stranded off world for years. The woman ended up having a baby with one of the natives but she died leaving the other two male team members to bring up the baby. They fell in love and brought up their baby. When they finally got rescued, they had to go back to earth with the baby and couldn't stay in the military because of DADT. There was a bit with Sheppard and McKay at the end where they were strapped into seats in an aeroplane and discovered that they were in love too.

In my subconscious I kill off unnecessary women as a plot device. Excellent. Clearly this is the exact kind of fic my brain longs for subconsciously. At least the two guys were hot.

Today:

- I have no hot water at all. A guy came to 'fix' the heater on Thursday and it worked for a bit and now it's even more broken.
- I have cooked chilli and then dropped half of it onto the oven door. It's one of those ones that opens downwards so there was just a big pile of chilli on there. And in the crack where the door opens. And on the floor. And when I finally finished cleaning it, using teaspoons to get kidney beans out of the crack (and then just my fingers), I shut the door and could see mince and kidney beans inside the door through the glass. Balls. I really didn't feel like eating what was left after that so it's dinner for tomorrow.
- I had a really stupid and pointless day at work.
- I watched the last episode of Atlantis. D:

I think I'm just going to hide in bed with a book and hope that my hair can go another day without washing because I really can't be bothered to a) wash my hair with cold water, or b) go through the rigmarole of filling the bath up with kettles of water.

I had the pleasure of having a brief visit from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] niennah last night. We drank a few bottles of wine and watched some episodes of Freaks and Geeks, and she gave me present from Kenilworth Castle: Merlin's very own Slash Dragon! Or maybe it's the Slash Dragon as a baby.

I just found some pictures on my phone of a weird fungus I saw on a fence post at the horse field in Nottingham. It looks like a hat!

strange fungus pictures )

I've just watched the latest episode of Atlantis: small spoilers )
odycee: (Atlantis - Sheppard - Colonel Grumpface)
The rest of England seems to be underwater but Hull is not (yet). Yay! I'm not sure why as it doesn't seem to have stopped raining for the last three years. I can't remember the last time I saw some sky.

[livejournal.com profile] emony just mentioned that she's sad that she's not going to Peg3 this weekend and so am I really. :( I've got no conventions lined up this year at all which is just not on. I know that the usual suspects have mentioned having a meet up at some point which I think we should definitely do.

SGA "Quarantine" Spoilers )

For the first time in ages, I stayed up late on a school night reading McKay/Sheppard fic: Forget Me Not by [livejournal.com profile] maisierita. It's in five parts, pretty long, and it sucks you right in. It's prison fic and amnesia fic, but manages to make the clichés work really well. I sometimes forget that I love long and plotty stuff.

A very serious post concerning SGA episode 4x05 Travellers: "Woe" - by Emo!Wraith Mike. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon for bringing this to us. It needed to be shared.

Three reasons why today has been brilliant:

1) Went to York to meet up with a friend that I've not seen for a few months. We caught up, went round a castle (always good fun!), bought some clothes and I got a lovely, lovely bag. I love bags.

2) Dumbledore is gay. FACT. I loved that while I was wandering around York this morning my mum sent me a text saying 'Did you hear that Dumbledore is gay?!'. She clearly knows me too well. This is pretty awesome. I hear there's been some discussion going on about whether this is a good or bad thing - fandom, will you ever be happy? True, it would have been better in the books, but still - it's pretty damn awesome. The whole Grindelwald/Dumbledore thing is like Clark/Lex. Albus Dumbledore = Clark Kent. FACT.

3) I just watched SGA 4x04 Doppelganger. spoilers )

So yes, today has been pretty entertaining.

Spoilers for SGA 3x18 or 3x14 or whatever the hell the number is - 'Sunday' )

I'm almost all caught up with my TV now. I've got two episodes of Lost to watch, two BSG, the latest SGA and the latest Heroes (which I'm really enjoying by the way!).

David Nykl has been confirmed as an extra guest at Peg 2! Hurrah! That's made me pretty happy! I can't believe it's only a week and a half away actually. It's nearly a year since we booked the tickets!

ETA: There was actually snow on the ground this morning! I think it must be winter finally!

Now we just have to wait for it to come back on in Canada!

I watched McKay and Mrs Miller earlier. spoilers )

Now I have to go and wrap up my dad's birthday present because it's his birthday tomorrow and I forgot until yesterday (because I suck) and had to dash off and buy something after work today.

birthday!

Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] packmentality! Heh.

Thanks to everyone that's wished me happy birthday so far. :D I've been having a nice relaxed day so far - I didn't get dressed until half past two! I can't remember the last time I did that.

I seem to have enough DVDs now to last me until the end of time. Which can only be a good thing! I'm currently wearing the daft present that my mum gave me - a watch with a Dalek on it! I texted my friend at work and said that I probably wouldn't be wearing my Dalek watch to work, to which he replied 'why not? It won't in any way detract from your 'street' image.' Thanks a lot! Yes, I am the resident saddo.

I finally got round to watching Atlantis earlier. Common Ground spoilers )

ETA: Oh! Did I imagine that SGA isn't on next week or is it the awful truth?
odycee: (HP - Sirius - celestialsoda art)
Link nicked from [livejournal.com profile] coppala: Snakes On A Plane On Toast! Heh. It amused me anyway. I'm just sad that they won't ship to outside the US.

This weeks SGA? Progeny )

ETA: This is my 888th post! Next Monday is my three year LJ anniversary. Wow. I can't believe that I've been around here so long!

in cars

My mum put me on my dad's car insurance yesterday so hopefully this weekend I'll be able to get some extra driving practice in! I've got a lesson at seven - a bit late really but I've got to take what I can get since I lost my regular slot when I went on holiday. I actually booked my theory test a few days ago. It's not until the middle of September, but I figure that should be ample time to procrastinate and do no preparation and then think 'shit. I should actually do something here'.

I watched Sateda a couple of days ago.brief SGA spoilers )

I will put some holiday photos up this week. Honest.

back!

So I made it back from Iceland in one piece! I got back yesterday afternoon and have spent a large proportion of today sleeping (I didn't get to bed terribly early last night due to having to watch two episodes of Atlantis as quickly as possible ;)). I had a great week and thankfully seem to have missed the evil heatwave here last week. I'll post some pictures at some point but right now I have to go and do yet another load of washing and try to make sense of the rest of the contents of my rucksack!

I saw some puffins, some volcanoes (I went up one which was still warm at the top!), some geysers (including the one from which the word 'geyser' comes from), rode some Icelandic horses and went in an outdoor geothermal spa! The weather was great and one morning it was actually warm enough to walk around in a t-shirt. 17 degrees C is a heatwave by Icelandic standards!

Back to work tomorrow... :(
odycee: (Random - omg squee!)
Ok. So I think I'm ready to go! My brother is giving me a lift to the airport early in the morning tomorrow so I hope I'm ready because otherwise I'm stuffed. I really need to go to bed now and get some sleep because otherwise I'm going to be a walking zombie. (and I did find my waterproof trousers so that's good).

I downloaded the new SGA earlier but haven't had time to watch it so I'll have to watch the first and second episodes when I get back next week. Exciting! I've been manically avoiding all the spoilers on my flist and it's been so hard!

Aaaargh! Just remembered to pack the toothpaste!
odycee: (Atlantis - Field manual for geeks)
There's someone who works on the second floor here who looks just like Dr. Kavanagh - he's got the pony tail, the glasses and the tie. It's actually quite disturbing.
odycee: (Doctor Who - Dalek - exterminate!)
brief Doctor Who spoilers )

I go on holiday to Iceland next Sunday! I've been terribly unorganised about it all (I guess I have been a little distracted for the past week, but that's not much of an excuse) but I think I'm mainly sorted now. I just looked at the weather forecast for Reykjavik - it's about 16 degrees there at the moment but the temperature is going to drop steadily all week until it gets to about 8 degrees on Thursday!! I'd better pack some thermals. Hopefully I'll get time to watch the new Atlantis episode before I go - I'll have to pray that I find a speedy torrent!
odycee: (Atlantis - Shep/McKay - Aurora - worried)
I try very hard to stay away from spoilers but I've been lured in by the new SGA promo pics from the first three episodes of season 3. I'm especially excited by the episode 3 ones. Awesomeness. I can't wait to see that episode!

[livejournal.com profile] niannah (<3) has sent me the first half of Supernatural season 1, so that will keep me entertained for a while. I don't really know what to expect from it to be honest, but lots of you guys enjoy it so I think it's worth giving it a go. I think I might get a bit frightened! I'm such a wuss.

My throat feels decidedly dodgy again tonight - on the other side than it did last week. I'm going to be most upset if I wake up tomorrow with another monster sore throat so I really hope it goes away over night. *crosses fingers*
odycee: (Atlantis - Shep/McKay - Aliens made us!)
I've just laughed my head off at work looking at these Engrish subtitles on a Atlantis Japanese DVD import. I just had to go to the toilet and hide for a minute because I couldn't stop laughing and everyone already thinks I'm mad!

this will not commit suicide the sex mission once, if McKay and Zelenka..

Edited - because Japansese does not equal Japanese.
odycee: (Atlantis - Rodney - b&w)
Fingers crossed, the internet seems to have fixed itself (I know that the moment I post this, my connection is going to disappear on me!).

I'm now going to post a link to that SGA fic that everyone and their mothers has recced already: Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose by [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic. Seriously people, if you've even the slightest interest in Atlantis (and even if you don't - I've never seen so many people comment on a fic who've never seen the source) you won't regret taking a look at this. It's Rodney post-Atlantis mission and it's one of the best pieces of fan writing I've ever read.

And now for something completely different: here's a link to a crossover fic - Atlantis/Father Ted. So very wrong and yet so right. Major Ted by [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone.

“Doctor Weir, I can explain!” he said. “The ZPM--it was just resting in my pack until I could transfer it to the other temple! Really, I--”

Ahahahaha! That will never stop being funny.

I'm feeling much love for fandom and all the fabulously creative people in it at the moment.
