More flood warnings? Tidal waves up estuarine rivers? Tidal surges in the North Sea? Good job I moved away from the east coast line and tidal rivers isn't it. Oh wait...

I'm pretty sure I'll be fine even though I'm about 200m away from the banks of the Humber. And if it all goes drastically wrong - at least I've got a third floor flat eh?

I'm in the new flat and I've even got a lounge that hasn't got boxes in any more! It's been lovely weather this weekend for a change so even the Humber was looking quite pretty. I'm working down in the Nottingham office on Tuesday and Thursday (not working Wednesday due to my birthday) so I'm back off home tomorrow. I'll be back for the weekend I think, so I'll look forward to some more unpacking then...

I'm knackered and I think I'm going to bed!

All (or most anyway - clearly not my laptop or it would mean I went in the back of the van so I could post this!) of my stuff (including my giant furniture) has been taken away by the removal men for it to be delivered to Hull in the morning. I'm sleeping on a mattress on the floor tonight. I'm so knackered and it's only going to get worse as I don't imagine tomorrow is going to be a very relaxing day! At least it will be done soon and I'll be sitting in my newly furnished flat watching Dexter that the lovely [livejournal.com profile] niannah sent to me last week. <3

so bored

AAAAAAAAARGH. I am so bored of packing and I've only done seven boxes so far. Three boxes of books, one from my desk drawers, one of toiletries (I have a big stockpile due the factory shop where I work) and one of random crap. Only seven-thousand more boxes of books to go. As for more random crap, who knows.

I went to the flat on Tuesday to get the keys. It's all okay apart from the washing machine and water heater need fixing but that's all arranged now. Now I just (!) have to pack up all my stuff. Oh god.

So, anyone want to rec me some fabulous McKay/Sheppard fic that I can read while I'm avoiding the inevitable?

Good things: I have found somewhere to live in Hull! A nice flat in the converted docklands with two bedrooms. I'm going up again to sign the contract and collect the keys in three weeks but I probably won't move in properly until the middle of August. It has the plus point of escaping all the flooding of the last few weeks. It was a bit of struggle finding anywhere that wasn't directly in the middle of the city centre as everything on the outskirts has either been a) flooded, or b) occupied by people who've had their houses flooded. I'm so glad that I've found somewhere nice and that I finally feel like I'm in control of what's going on.

Bad things: I knew Hull had its own telephone network, Kingston Communications, and that they were never part of BT (the only area in the entire country) - Hull never had the iconic red telephone boxes, they're cream instead. This is all fine and good, but I never thought about how this would affect internet providers. Because you can't get a BT phone line in Hull and there are no cable providers (not even my old nemesis NTL/Virgin Media), you are stuck with one broadband provider, Keroo, which by the number of disgruntled customers I've found posting in various places on the internet, is a complete bag of crap with pathetic download speeds. Joy! But at least I've got a choice of two whole dial-up providers so that's ok! Aren't there rules about monopolies like this? Why do I have to go and live in the only place in the entire UK that doesn't have BT?

I'm off to Hull in a minute (I've got my waterproof coat to take with me) as I'm meeting the relocation woman from work tomorrow to try and find somewhere to rent. I'm screwed if I want anywhere furnished (so unfurnished it is) as so many people have had their houses flooded there (allegedly nearly one in five people) there's no furnished rented accommodation left. Sounds like the land lords are bumping up the prices too in response. Damn people having their houses flooded at such an inconvenient time for me! Hopefully by this time tomorrow I'll have found somewhere - the lady has nine places lined up for me to look at so hopefully at least one will be suitable for me and my laptop...
