I had an amazing holiday - so relaxing and in such a nice place. I got back on Saturday and got to spend my birthday with my family and my boyfriend which was lovely. Why did I have to go back to work? D: I fear that my newly relaxed state is going to be sorely tested tomorrow. Ah well. I had a lovely week and it was a really good break from work. I think I may have to cut back on the chocolate and booze now though as I seem to have expanded somewhat. Damn you France and your delicious cheese and wine!

In other news, there'll be new Merlin soon! Awesome!

I thought I'd post some pictures of my week in Scotland (and Berwick upon Tweed). We travelled around a bit: from Lindisfarne (not Scotland!) to the West coast (Arndamurchan), up north where we stayed in a youth hostel that was a castle (we may have spied Nessie on the way past Loch Ness and also Morag in Loch Morar), down to the east where we walked up Lochnagar (the mountain behind Balmoral - I've been up before when I used to live nearby in Banchory) and back down to the Borders and then home. We did a lot of driving - about 1200 miles over the nine days. We saw a pair of Golden Eagles on the west coast which was pretty cool. The weather was (mostly) great and I didn't get too eaten by midges - pretty amazing for a holiday in Scotland!

I really wish I wasn't back at work this week!

holiday!

I've been on holiday in Scotland for a week. Great week but I'm absolutely knackered now - straight to bed I think! I think I need another week in bed! Work tomorrow...
odycee: (Doctor Who - Ten - Say cheese!)
Thanks to everyone for the Christmas cards!

Today was my first day of holiday and I'm really enjoying not being at work. I'm definitely ready for a couple of weeks to wind down. I'm going back down to Nottingham tomorrow for a week or so.

My uni friends came up last weekend and it was lovely. We had a mini Christmas and opened our presents from each other. Father Ted on DVD! Awesome. I took them to the Deep - the big aquarium place in Hull - which was pretty fabulous. I love seeing sharks! Going up the tank in a glass lift was very strange. I did have a bit of a cold all weekend which wasn't so great but it's mostly gone now apart from a cough. A good cure seemed to be the twelve hours of drinking that I managed on Friday for the work Christmas party. Normally if I mix alcohol and colds it doesn't go well, but I felt great on Saturday morning - I practically leapt out of bed which is extremely unusual for me!

Now I'm just counting the days until New Who!

on holiday!

Yes, I am still around! I'm just up and down from Nottingham to Hull like a yo-yo at the moment. I've watched the whole first season of Dexter now - awesome show! Can't wait for the second series although I'm interested about where they're going to go with it.

I'm just finishing packing for my holiday to Italy before I go down to my friend's house for tonight. I'm off tomorrow! See you in a week!
odycee: (Doctor Who - Ten/Martha - tuxedo)
Aaargh. Festering cold. This is what happens when I go on holiday, without fail. I always look so attractive with a red peeling nose.

Bath was lovely - very relaxing spa, historical Roman stuff, shopping, strange drunk men, second hand book shopping, scary Doctor Who-esqe statues and lots and lots of rain.

Had a great time in Coventry too - BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, second hand book shopping (again), Pictionary and bingo! The bingo was hilarious and we won £10! Don't know if I'll be using my membership card again though...

This week's Doctor Who - awesome. Also, I have a new moodtheme made by [livejournal.com profile] lambietoes. I loved Sheppard's hair, but this one's Doctor Who and is all animated (which may get annoying but not yet)!

I hope everyone had a great holiday! I've been rather absent from LJ
over the break - the boyfriend spent most of the two weeks I was off
work round at my house which severely cramped my LJing! ;) Actually, it
was really nice. He got me the Torchwood DVDs for Christmas even though
they weren't actually on sale until Boxing Day! I'm not entirely sure
how he managed that but I'm not complaining!

My friend has just bought a house, so for new year's eve I went down
there. We had a good laugh, drank lots and spent Monday afternoon
ripping polystyrene ceiling tiles off the bathroom ceiling while wearing
pyjamas! I've got the last two episodes of Torchwood to watch from New
Year's Day when I get home.

I'm so upset to be at work! Yesterday was my first day back for a
fortnight. Boo. At least I figured out how to post from work! (And
hopefully my company's sig line won't appear at the bottom of this
post.)

Aaaargh. Why am I so disorganised?! I'm knackered and I've got to finish packing for my trip to Rotterdam tonight as I'm going straight down to my friend's house in London after work tomorrow to get the flight on Friday morning. It's too hot and I can't be bothered. I just need to make sure I've got my passport in my bag and I'll be fine...

How did I not already have a tag for moaning?!

Oh, and I've still got two invites left for Vox if any one is interested. Comment with your email address and they're yours.

ETA: Ew. I was just wrapping up my friend's birthday present at the dining table when I noticed that there was a large yellow slug sitting looking at me from the table top. Where the fuck has that come from?! It soon found itself back outside.
odycee: (HP - Padfoot - bad dog)
I'm not posting all my Iceland holiday photos now but I thought I'd put two of the fannish/geek related ones up because they amused me.

I've got a vox account courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] moonilicious - I'm over there as odycee too in case any one is interested. I probably won't use it much but it's nice to know I've got another backup (even if threaded comments aren't available) and no one can nick my username now! I've got four invites if any one is interested.

back!

So I made it back from Iceland in one piece! I got back yesterday afternoon and have spent a large proportion of today sleeping (I didn't get to bed terribly early last night due to having to watch two episodes of Atlantis as quickly as possible ;)). I had a great week and thankfully seem to have missed the evil heatwave here last week. I'll post some pictures at some point but right now I have to go and do yet another load of washing and try to make sense of the rest of the contents of my rucksack!

I saw some puffins, some volcanoes (I went up one which was still warm at the top!), some geysers (including the one from which the word 'geyser' comes from), rode some Icelandic horses and went in an outdoor geothermal spa! The weather was great and one morning it was actually warm enough to walk around in a t-shirt. 17 degrees C is a heatwave by Icelandic standards!

Back to work tomorrow... :(
odycee: (Random - omg squee!)
Ok. So I think I'm ready to go! My brother is giving me a lift to the airport early in the morning tomorrow so I hope I'm ready because otherwise I'm stuffed. I really need to go to bed now and get some sleep because otherwise I'm going to be a walking zombie. (and I did find my waterproof trousers so that's good).

I downloaded the new SGA earlier but haven't had time to watch it so I'll have to watch the first and second episodes when I get back next week. Exciting! I've been manically avoiding all the spoilers on my flist and it's been so hard!

Aaaargh! Just remembered to pack the toothpaste!
odycee: (Random - pencil crayons)
I saw PotC 2 last night - I don't have any deep and meaningful thoughts about it but I did enjoy it. It might have been a tad too long but it was entertaining and there was a lot of pretty. And that's my review. ;)

I've only just got back from the field as tonight we finished off most of the ragwort pulling and then had a barbeque. We've been meaning to have a barbeque up there since we moved on three years ago and we've only just got round to it! Better late than never I guess.

I really, really have to start packing for the holiday after my driving lesson tomorrow. I think I've got everything I need now except insect repellent but I can nip into Boots on the way home tomorrow and I'll be sorted. I managed to sort out a 3 hour morning of horse riding where we'll be able to see a volcano and some rivers. I can't wait to go! I hate all the preparation for holidays but it's worth it when you get there.

...

And now I'm wondering whether it's barbeque or barbecue. Maybe I should just stick to BBQ.
odycee: (Doctor Who - Dalek - exterminate!)
brief Doctor Who spoilers )

I go on holiday to Iceland next Sunday! I've been terribly unorganised about it all (I guess I have been a little distracted for the past week, but that's not much of an excuse) but I think I'm mainly sorted now. I just looked at the weather forecast for Reykjavik - it's about 16 degrees there at the moment but the temperature is going to drop steadily all week until it gets to about 8 degrees on Thursday!! I'd better pack some thermals. Hopefully I'll get time to watch the new Atlantis episode before I go - I'll have to pray that I find a speedy torrent!

Hurrah!

  • Yay! I'm off on a wee holiday for the rest of the week. I'm heading off down south with a couple of friends until Sunday and we're going via Salisbury so that we can see Stonehenge as none of us have ever been before. I'd better finish packing my toiletries and remember what else I've forgotten to get. So far I've remembered I have no toothpaste to take with me - but I do have camera film. D'oh.

  • [livejournal.com profile] niannah's just posted a lovely series of interconnected Sirius/Remus drabbles that hurt: To The End

  • To the new folk I gathered yesterday - hello and goodbye! I would have done a 'hello, this is me' post but I haven't got time now. Actually, that's a lie. I wouldn't have because I'm far too lazy.

  • Why can't the predictive text on my mobile spell 'Luddite'? Rubbish.

ETA: Little cat Bean has just discovered her pink jingly ball again. I'd forgotten that by the time it gets to bonfire night, she has decided that it's too cold and scary to go out in the evening so she tortures us all chasing that ball up and down the hard wood floor.

While I'm on a cat update - we haven't seen the field cats for a week or so. Apparently some crazy lady at the bottom of the hill is feeding them. Perhaps she doesn't realise that these cats have luxury as far as farm cats go - they have their own caravan and a fluffy basket for goodness sake! They're still around - people have seen them and the food is being eaten - but I saw a few rats last week so they're obviously not around enough.
odycee: (BTVS - puppet!Angel)
I've had a brilliant weekend. The fancy dress party was fabulous - we had Elvis, Dick Turpin, Al Capone, Tony Blair (with the most hideously frightening mask I have ever seen), Michael Jackson, two Helen of Troy, William Wallace, Jesus and me as Charles Darwin. Very very funny. Everyone had Jesus's beard on at some point and by 11:30 everyone had facial hair drawn on in eyeliner. Helen of Troy looked particularly fabulous with a tashe on. The house was gorgeous - an old vicarage - and there was even a computer hooked up to broadband! How great is that?!

I am very tired now. I've done some washing and unpacked and semi-caught up on the f-list - skip=140 guys? And that was excluding all the communities. There's no way I can possibly catch up on [livejournal.com profile] scarvesnhats and it's only been going three days! I've been reading everyone's Serenity squee too - isn't it amazing! I'm glad that I can discuss it now! It's almost seven months since I first saw it and that's a long time to keep all those spoilers in.
odycee: (HP - MWPP animagi)
I'm just about to disappear off for the weekend to meet up with my friends from university and we've got a cottage booked. It should be cool - we're having a historical people fancy dress party tomorrow night and I'm going as Darwin. I don't have a large beard unfortunately, so I'm going to be young Darwin, just returned from his voyage on the Beagle! Apparently it's the anniversary of his return from the voyage on Sunday so it's very apt!

Ireland

I'm currently in Cork in an internet cafe (with damn weird music) waiting around because my flight home isn't until half past eight this evening. I've had such a great week in Ireland. We've been so lucky with the weather - I've only got wet a few times. One of those times was because we were out walking in the hills and we had to ford a river a couple of times with bare feet. Very exciting! And then I went up to my ankle in a boggy bit when I put my boot back on. D'oh.

Needless to say it was all very lovely. Kerry is so beautiful. Meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] niannah was fab and it was great for her to meet my friends and to meet up with her friends. Amongst other things we went horse riding, saw some prehistoric tetrapod foot prints, went walking in the hills, saw lots of ancient settlements, castles and standing stones and rang some church bells. Last night we went out for birthday drinks in Cork which was great.

Whilst I was away, people voted in [livejournal.com profile] niannah's multifandom wordathon (and I popped online to vote too) and I came second! Very bizarre! Anna made me a banner:

my banner )

I hope I haven't missed anything too exciting as I haven't the stamina to go back 3539475 entries in my f-list!

ETA: My two year LJ anniversary was last week - I can't believe that I've been hanging around here for two years!! Scary!
odycee: (HP - MWPP animagi)
I am such an addict. Why am I posting at half past five in the morning when I don't even have anything to say? I'm off to the airport in a minute so I'll see you all next Sunday when I get back! Woo!
odycee: (HP - Padfoot - bad dog)
Aaaargh. I think I'm just about ready now. It's a good job really because I've got to leave for the airport at about quarter to six tomorrow morning. Yay Ireland! See you tomorrow [livejournal.com profile] niannah! I had the day off work to pack and do stuff - I did get all my washing done and get to the post office but as I'm my usual procrastinating self, I also made a load of icons.

They're quite simple Marauders icons made from pictures of a dog, rat, wolf and stag. If you want one, go ahead - just let me know if you take one and I'd love it if you credited me in the keywords/comments.
